Modern France Shuttle touring coach used for group hire across France with an English-speaking driver

Will the driver really speak English?

Yes. Every driver we assign to an international group speaks French and English. This is not a line in a FAQ for us, it is the reason the service exists: France Shuttle was built for groups coming into France from abroad, and a driver who cannot answer a question at a motorway stop is a driver who turns a good trip into a stressful one.

What that means in practice: your group leader has the driver mobile number before departure, the driver confirms pick-up points in English the evening before, and changes made on the day — a museum that closes early, a delayed flight, an extra stop — are agreed directly with the driver rather than routed through an office. If your group needs a third language, say so when you ask for the quote. We cannot promise every language on every date, and we will tell you honestly before you book rather than after.

Where in France can you pick us up?

Anywhere. The 1,200 partner operators are spread across the whole country, which is what lets us start a journey in Nice, Strasbourg, Bordeaux or Lille rather than sending an empty coach down from Paris and charging you for it. The most common starting points for groups arriving from abroad are Paris Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais airports, the Paris mainline stations, and the regional airports of Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse and Bordeaux.

Cross-border starts are routine too: a group coming from Munich, Brussels, Geneva, Milan or Barcelona can be picked up on its own side of the border and driven into France by the same coach and the same driver, which removes a change of vehicle and a change of language in the middle of the journey.

Our fleet — from 8 to 93 seats

One fleet, one price grid, whatever the departure city. The largest coach in the network carries 93 passengers. Above that we run a convoy of several vehicles, up to 1,000 passengers on a single movement — which is how school federations, congress organisers and sports clubs travel with us.

What does it cost to hire a coach in France?

Indicative day rates, including tax, for a driver and vehicle. A day means roughly 8 hours and 200 km; beyond that the per-kilometre rate applies. Your written quote is a fixed price, not a range.

A wheelchair-accessible coach carries 4 to 5 wheelchairs per vehicle alongside its seated passengers. If your group needs more than five places, tell us at the quote stage and we combine two vehicles.

Why going through us costs less than calling a coach operator yourself

It is the question every experienced group organiser asks an intermediary, and the answer is a number: the rates we negotiate across the network are 15 to 20 % below the price the same operator quotes a one-off customer directly. A coach company sells us hundreds of days a year; it sells you one. That volume is what you are buying when you book through France Shuttle, and it is why the comparison usually goes our way even after our margin.

The second thing you are buying is a fallback. A single operator with a broken-down coach on the morning of your transfer has one answer for you. With 1,200 partners in the same network, we have another vehicle to find.

How do we pay from outside France?

By bank transfer in euros, or by credit card. A deposit confirms the booking and the balance is due before departure; the exact split is written on your quote, so you know it before you commit and not afterwards. We invoice a company, a school, an association or a private individual, with a French VAT invoice that your finance department can process. Our VAT number is FR61 838 863 744.

Prices on this page are shown including tax, which is how French consumers read a price. If your organisation needs the figure excluding tax for its budget, ask and the quote carries both lines.

How many hours can a French coach driver legally drive?

This is the single rule that most often breaks a programme written abroad, so it is worth knowing before you build the itinerary rather than on the morning of day one. European Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 applies to every coach in France, ours and everyone else’s.

  • 9 hours of driving a day, extendable to 10 hours twice a week.
  • A 45-minute break after 4 h 30 at the wheel.
  • 11 hours of daily rest before driving again, reducible to 9 hours three times a week.
  • A tachograph records all of it. No operator can waive any of it.

What it changes for you: a 23:00 landing at Charles de Gaulle followed by a 07:00 departure for Mont Saint-Michel needs two drivers, or a later start. A single-day run from Paris to the French Riviera and back does not exist. We will say which of the two applies to your programme when we quote, and we price the second driver openly rather than discovering it on the day.

Can you run a multi-day tour, not just a transfer?

Yes, and it is the format we see most from groups flying in. The coach and the same driver stay with you for the whole circuit: Paris and the Loire châteaux in three days, Normandy and the D-Day beaches, Provence and the Riviera, the Alps in winter, Bordeaux and the vineyards. Driver accommodation and the legally required rest periods are built into the itinerary and into the quoted price, which is what separates a programme that can actually be run from one that looks good on a spreadsheet.
